Below is a list of the best places in Sweden for people who love jogging. Here you will find cross-country trails in parks and reserves, city trails and recommended routes in cities. Surely everyone will find something for themselves.

And this is our list of places for runners:)

National parks and reserves

  • Our first proposal is the Kungsleden (Royal Route), called a pearl among the cross-country routes of Sweden. It is a 440-kilometer trail in Lapland, ideal for longer cross-country trips. The most popular section is the northern part between Abisko and Kebnekaise (about 105 km), which can be covered in 3-5 days. The terrain is relatively flat, making it accessible even to less experienced mountain runners. The best time to run around Kungsleden is mid-June to mid-September. In the summer you can experience the phenomenon of white nights, when the sun practically does not set, which allows you to run at any time of the day and night.
  • Tyresta National Park – located just 20 km from Stockholm. It offers nearly 55 kilometers of well-marked trails of various difficulty through the forest. The most popular route leads around Lake Bylsjön and is about 5 km long. It is an ideal choice for beginner runners. But if you really want to get tired, you can connect several trails and run up to 20-30 km among amazing nature!
  • Djurgården Nature Reserve – delights runners with unique routes leading through royal gardens, bays and oak forests. Offering both quiet paths along the quay and more demanding sections with hills. And all this is just a few minutes from the historical center of Stockholm.

Urban routes

  • For urban routes, Hagaparken (Stockholm) was first on the list. It offers runners a popular 5-kilometer route around Brunnsviken Lake, which leads through woodlands and meadows. There are also trails specially prepared for cross-country skiing enthusiasts.
  • Another trail is Gothenburg, which consists of a network of well-marked cross-country skiing trails of various lengths, from 2,5 km to 12 km. Especially popular is the route in Slottsskogen, where runners can enjoy both flat stretches and more demanding parts with natural hills.
  • The circuits around Lake Mälaren are a network of picturesque cross-country skiing trails, leading through promenades or forest paths. We have here short cross-country trails as well as longer distances through the wild areas of the peninsula. The most popular among runners is the route through Kungsholmen and Långholmen.

Recommended city routes

  • Stockholm is the first of the city routes we recommend: The Järva Route is 35 km of green paths, it is a real paradise for runners! We can choose here between easy, flat paths and more demanding forest sections. The entire trail is well marked and offers several loops of different lengths, so that everyone will find something for themselves – from beginners to advanced runners.
  • Another one is Malmö – Park Pildammsparken. The length of the entire route is about 3 kilometers. It offers runners a pleasant route around a large pond. It is an ideal place for both beginners and more advanced runners looking for a peaceful workout.
  • Gothenburg – a system of Delsjön trails, is an extensive network of cross-country trails around Lakes Stora Delsjön and Lilla Delsjön, offering loops of 2,5 km to 10 km. It is a favorite spot for local runners.

And what is the best time to run in Sweden? The best time to run is from May to September, when the day is the longest and the temperatures are pleasant for runners.
