Camping in Lofoten – accommodation in the heart of Norwegian paradise

Exploring Lofoten: A Camping Adventure

Lofoten, an archipelago in the north of Norway, is one of the most picturesque places in the world. Mountain peaks, crystal clear waters, fjords and charming fishing villages make it an ideal place for camping. If you dream of spending the night under a tent surrounded by beautiful nature, come to Norway! In this article, we will tell you how to plan your trip, find perfect camping places and what to see in Lofoten.

When to go?

The best time for camping is summer (June-August), a time when days are long thanks to the phenomenon of white nights. And from mid-May to mid-July the sun does not set, so we have more time to explore the archipelago. Autumn (September-October) is the perfect time for those who do not like crowds – there are fewer tourists, but the downside are shorter days. This is a good time to admire the colors of autumn and aurora. Camping in winter (November-March period) on Lofoten is a challenge, but the reward is spectacular aurora polar and unique landscapes covered with snow. In spring (April-May), while snow is still on the peaks, but the days are getting longer and nature awakens to life.

How to get to Lofota?

We have four options to reach Lofota. The first one is a car (it can of course be a motorhome). This is the best way to explore Lofota. You can come by car through Sweden and Norway or rent a car in Norway (e.g. in Bodø). The second option is the ferry. A very popular way to reach Lofoten. Ferries run from Bodø to Moskenes, Værøy or Røst. We can also fly through Oslo or Bodø. The nearest airport is in Leknes. And the last of the proposals is public transport. Buses run between larger cities and villages in Lofoten, but are less comfortable, especially if you plan to camping in the wild.

What to take with you on a trip?

When going to Norway, regardless of the season, our equipment must include: a waterproof tent resistant to strong wind, a warm sleeping bag, a tourist stove and a supply of food – stores in Lofoten can be expensive, and some areas are far from civilization, layered, wind- and water-resistant clothing, powerbanks and a headlamp (especially in the winter season), a map, compass and tourist applications, e.g. Maps.me or Gaia GPS.
